Do You Open the Door?
Who's knocking?
Are you like my family?
When the doorbell rings, do you refuse to answer it before knowing who's there?
In this world we have little time for sales-persons, surveyors, and political volunteers to take up our time. Some people may quietly look at their security app to see who's there. Others may even run and hide, hoping the person at the door doesn't see or hear anything. The problem of "Who's at the door?" is not new.
Rhoda, a young slave girl heard a knock at the door. She recognized the voice frantically begging to be let in from outside. It was Peter, but he was supposed to be in prison. The other disciples were praying for him to be saved from certain death. Instead of opening it, she ran to the family to announce he was standing there. No one believed her. Finally they opened the door and heard the story of his miraculous rescue.
He said, 'It's really true! The Lord has sent his angel and saved me from Herod."
It's still true. The Lord Jesus saves us from our sins and he saves us for eternal life. Jesus forgives us and restores us to a joyful relationship with God and others. We have purpose in Him.
I hope you'll join us this weekend at Christ the Cornerstone to celebrate what God does in our lives, to pray for others just as Peter's friends did, and to play our part in the Kingdom of God.
Pray this prayer with me: Heavenly Father, we all have days when we wonder if you will help us. Encourage our spirits with your Holy Spirit so that we will pray faithfully and wait for your full salvation to come. Our world needs you. We need you. Come, Lord Jesus. Amen.
