Need a Fierce Conversation with God?
Do You Hear God Calling You?
“Fierce conversations” are required in the business world, but we need them in every-day relationships, too. A "fierce conversation" is not an angry conversation. Rather, it's one that deals honestly, openly, truthfully, and seeks to bring out the best in a relationship. That often requires a lot of courage and skill. The very first fierce conversation happened between God and Adam and Eve.
It started when God searched for Adam when he asked, "Where are you?" Adam hid, but then decided to engage. Because of that first fierce conversation, God began his plan to save all of humanity from our rebellion against God.
Another fierce conversation was between Ananias and God. God told Ananias to visit, pray for, and heal Saul, who was a known killer. Ananias replied, “But God...” and then whined that it was too dangerous.
God replied in like manner and said, “But Ananias…”
Who do you think prevailed in that conversation? Of course it was God. Ananias obeyed God’s instruction even though it didn’t make sense. Ananias wasn’t ignorant of the danger, but he trusted God and did it anyway. God blesses us all because Ananias obeyed. You can read the story in Acts 9.
Is God asking you to do something that makes little human sense? Is God’s request in line with God’s will? If so, then trust and obey. If you'll let me, I’ll be glad to pray with you and “walk” with you through whatever God asks. You can reply to this email to tell me about it.
Fierce conversations with God are often the best conversations. So go ahead and have one today.
Here’s a prayer to start:
Gracious and loving God, you are awesome because you not only ask us to do things that go against human wisdom, you teach, empower, and equip us to do them. With you, we are never alone. With you we gain courage, skill, and wisdom. Thank you for choosing us to do amazing things. So let’s go do them in Jesus’ name! Amen.
