How Do You Hear God
Tyler asked, “God, what’s a million years to you? God said, “One minute.”
Intrigued, Tyler asked, “What’s a million dollars to you?” God answered, “Just a penny.”
“Well then,” Tyler pushed a little more: “God, can I have a penny?” Then God said,
“Sure! … in just a minute.”
God wants us to talk with Him, for sure. But hearing God accurately is another learned skill. In Acts 13: 1-5, the church members were worshiping God and fasting when the Holy Spirit spoke. God instructed them to send out Barnabas and Saul to tell others the message of Jesus.
Hear are three skills that helped:
1. Worship: To revere, respect, and speak with God.
2. Fast: To deny yourself something in order to remind yourself that you are reliant upon God. "Hunger for God" increases while we fast.
3. Listen: God inspires scripture, thoughts, and words from others that instruct us.
Consider how you're using these skills to hear God in your life. Let's meet this weekend to honor and listen to God so that we can go out and tell others the Good News of Jesus.
Heavenly Father, we need to hear from you, and we need to hear you clearly. We worship you because you have not left us alone to live helplessly in this world. Instead, you call us to friendship with you forever. Teach us, through your Holy Spirit, to hear you. Give us courage to follow you, in Jesus' name. Amen.
