Here's A "Jeopardy" Question for You
Jeopardy Answer: This couple, named in the Bible, escaped Jewish persecution in Rome and moved to a city in Greece where they befriended and started a tent-making business with the apostle Paul.
Correct Question: Who are Priscilla and Aquila? (Acts 18)
As they made and sold tents, they told many people about Jesus, and they created a great friendship.
"The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense."
"Never abandon a friend—either yours or your father’s. When disaster strikes, you won’t have to ask your brother for assistance. It’s better to go to a neighbor than to a brother who lives far away."
--Proverbs 27:9-10
Here are two core priorities at Christ the Cornerstone:
- To be people who tell others that God, through Jesus, wants a friendship with us. The reality is that we were created to live in friendship with God but we all have turned away from God. Jesus is that friend who keeps us connected with God.
- To create a community where we are the kind of friends to our neighbors who give heartfelt counsel that is as sweet as perfume. That counsel is priority #1.
We all need friends and the only way I know to have a friend is to be a friend. So, let’s determine and work today to love others as God loves us. And let’s share the news to our neighbors that Jesus changes our lives for good.
Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us so much that you sent your Son, Jesus, who gave his life so that we can live an abundant and joy-filled life now with hope of eternal life with you. Give us your Holy Spirit to change us, free us from the tyranny of sin so that we can love you with our whole heart, mind, soul, and strength, and we can love all our neighbors as ourselves. We trust you through Jesus. Amen.
