 Now, read these Proverbs from the Bible that speak a much greater truth:

   3 Fire tests the purity of silver and gold,
    but the Lord tests the heart. Prov 17:3

   ² People may be right in their own eyes,
    but the Lord examines their heart. Prov. 21:2

   ¹⁹ As a face is reflected in water,
    so the heart reflects the real person. Prov. 27:19

   ⁹ Who can say, “I have cleansed my heart;
    I am pure and free from sin”? Prov. 20:9
 
And finally,
 
   ³⁸ “Listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins.” Acts 13:38
 
The one who trusts in Jesus to forgive our sins is the one who can say, “I have cleansed my heart. I am pure and free from sin!”
